Another Day, Another Don – Mixed Media on Canvas

photo 1 (4)

My Don Quijote series of sculptures and paintings was inspired by memories of my father (1920 – 1999).

The series now comprises three paintings, a larger-than-life Raku and copper sculpture (‘Gran Quixote’ or ‘Big Don’), a Raku bust and four Raku studies which represent traits and moods my father shared with the Man From La Mancha.

The great reader                    (Sitting lost in thought)
The great adventurer           (Looking to the distant horizon and adventure)
The great protector              (Strong and silent, standing his ground)
The great fighter                   (Mounted on Rosinante fighting life’s battles)

The Giacometti-inspired style represents my father’s physique: tall, fit, elegant but wiry – a body honed by a hard life. A man I admired and loved and miss very much.
